Nancy MacArthur Smith's Voice Studio

Soprano Nancy MacArthur Smith has performed everything from early music to musical theater to opera. Favorite roles include Laurey in Oklahoma!, Sarah in Guys & Dolls, Carrie in Carousel, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, and Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors.  She has sung Baroque and Renaissance music with Carmina, Washington Kantorei, Armonia Nova, and The Bach Sinfonia. She performed in La Boheme with The Washington National Opera.  Ms. Smith’s oratorio repertoire includes the Schubert Mass in G, Haydn's Creation, and requiems by Rutter, Brahms, Faure, and Mozart, as well as Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria.  While touring with the Soldiers' Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, she sang patriotic and jazz standards, folk songs, choral classics, musicals, art songs, and back-up for John Denver and Whitney Houston. She has music directed Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, Hairspray, Legally Blonde and Ragtime.  Ms. Smith has performed solo art song recitals for the Friday Morning Music Club, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and the Northern Virginia Music Teachers' Association.  Her experience with a variety of musical styles has helped her to build a successful voice studio in Northern Virginia.

Testimonial

"Mrs. Smith provides an extremely supportive learning environment in her studio, which was absolutely crucial to my development as a performer. She always encouraged me to work hard to reach my goals and never give up on my dreams. Without Mrs. Smith’s constant wisdom and compassionate teaching, I would never have gained the confidence, opportunities, and success that I have today.”
